Welcome at the WordPress Tavern Friday Happy Hour. This post will give you a brief summary of the WordPress Tavern Community’s activities each Friday.

From The Forum:

Hosting Your Own Website – Community Member Conorp has been thinking about purchasing an old computer and setting it up as a webhosting server. This situation has its pros and cons. The WPTavern community will help Conorp navigate the right path.

Displaying Categories In Themes – I brought up the issue earlier this week regarding why some themes are designed to show all of the categories for a blog. Most bloggers have more categories than they can fit in the available space so it is not worth bothering. You can see the discussion that ensued.

Premium Theme Business Models – With the Business section of the forum open for business, I took the opportunity to ask those in the forum to discuss ideas or business models that relate to premium themes and the GPL. There are some great answers, particularly one from newcomer film_girl.

What Feature Do You Want In WordPress 2.8? This thread is still open with a new entry added last night. However, a lot of people have submitted feature requests for WordPress 2.8. Are you one of them?

Other news and tidbits:

During this past week, the WPTavern forum officially reached 100 registered users. Also, 6 Ways WordPress Might Die became the first post on WPTavern to be submitted to StumbleUpon. Ian Stewart, thank you for this one.

WordPress Tavern is likely to have a lighter color scheme and will not be as stark next week. The forum will likely also undergo a color change. Send me any suggestions for dark or light color schemes.

WPTavern should have everything in place by the end of next Week so that advertising can be done as efficiently as possible.

That wraps up the Friday Happy Hour. For a complete overview of what’s happening at the Tavern, check back next week. Remember, the drinks are always on the house!
